What to Pack for a 1-night trip

Tried and tested. The things I've forgotten. The things I did not need to bring. Ladies and gentlemen, it's here: the long-awaited tell-all. Let's go.

Clothes

Having clean clothes to change into will make all the difference. I prefer hiking in biker shorts or athletic shorts that won't get caught on trees or rocks and will be comfortable to wear.

  • Outfit for day 1: t-shirt, biker shorts, socks, sports bra

  • Outfit for day 2: clean shirt/top, clean shorts, socks

  • Extra pair of socks

  • PJs: sweatpants, sweatshirt, cozy socks

  • Pair of sandals

  • Hiking boots/sneakers

  • Swimsuit

Hygiene

Don't forget any necessary medications - if you realize you're allergic to something, having allergy meds is a lifesaver! Packing something you can wash your face with is critical to feeling clean before sleeping for the night. Personally I don't enjoy sleeping in bug spray.

  • Deodorant

  • Toothbrush & toothpaste

  • Shower wipes/makeup remover wipes

  • Extra ponytail

  • Towel

  • Advil & allergy medication

  • Bug spray

  • Sunscreen

Sleep

Don't forget some protection to have near you while sleeping: pepper spray, knife, alarm, etc.

  • Sleeping mat

  • Sleeping bag

  • Safety items

Other things

  • Phone charger

  • Sunglasses

  • Hat

  • Camera

  • Food

  • Cooler

  • Propane

  • Stove

  • Water bottle

  • Water

  • Camping chair & table

  • Firestarter and lighter

  • Small mirror (great for longer trips!)

  • Atlas

  • Emergency toilet paper

  • Fishing pole + tackle

  • Rain jacket

  • Bug headnet
